Peranakan means “locally born” in the Malay term and is usually used to describe descendants of the Chinese immigrant traders of whom married local Malays / Indonesians during the 15th and 17th centuries. With a hybrid of Chinese, Malay and western culture, Peranakans have a unique identity with amazing furniture design sense, outstanding in cuisine, literature, embroidery and bead work.
