Turning Green With Responsibility. TouchWood.

Global warming, recycling, going green are much discussed words in today’s vocabulary. The world increasingly recognizes it’s current state with an honest intent to stage a difference. To see ‘Green’ today is an ideology that supercedes individual preferences and is rooted in the interrelationship between people and the environment we often take for granted. This wisdom has graciously percolated into the world of furniture.

Wood is scarce and its safeguarding of prime importance. Turning the tables on materialism and restraining from taking from the environment is the new code.
The growing understanding that old, throwaway and discarded pieces can find their way back in ones living room endorses the view that furniture that has seen its best days can see better. With some ingenuity, imagination and conscience it can be reborn.  Commonly known as Green Design. These designs are socially directed rather than commercially motivated. The wood is restored by environmentally –friendly techniques that keep its quality and beauty intact and convert an unwanted chair into a cabinet of desire.

In addition to this is the use of chemical-free raw wood in ones furniture. Pressure treated woods can contain toxic chemicals that may result in causing harm. This heightens the importance of using raw wood and also preservation of woods with techniques that are risk-free.
WTP takes necessary care in its materials and greets those who are looking at recycling their existing furniture. The restoration team at WTP examines the piece and works closely with its customers in the re- creation process. With a combination of dexterity, playfulness and freedom new expressions are fashioned. ‘Restore rather than Store’ being their operating mantra.

Along with the larger view of saving the world, re-using furniture comes with the dual benefit of saving money as well. Moving costs, new furniture costs and even simply discarding it come with a dollar value, which can be exempted. This efficient, economical and utilitarian approach is certainly not devoid of creativity. This movement will hopefully see a new meaning of ‘green’ – from a culture of materialism that made people turn green with envy to preservation that makes people turn green with responsibility.
