Living in the balance. Beautifully.

If one were to step back and think of the emerging skyline of living spaces of Singapore, sub-conscious glimpses of steel and glass are likely to flash and dissolve. And now if one were to step inside these spaces, a comment suggesting ‘these apartments are smaller than last time’ are likely to be uttered. This is the shape for the future. A representation of the new modern and a result of  ‘machine’ culture. Now when one has to bring these spaces to life through the aesthetic embracement of furniture, a minimilistic, straight-lined view is encouraged. All wooden furniture is sometimes thought to be too ‘heavy’ and steel which integrates beautifully into such environments considered to be too ‘cold’. In a democratic integration of taste, functionality and environmental impact one can find a middle-ground that sustains as the future of design. A balance between the ‘warm; and ‘cold’, between permanent and transient, between nature and consumer dominated culture, between technology and craft can  synthesise into something that is dynamic and enriching. The interweave of the warmth wood and precision of steel materials into furniture pieces is an example that has found great acceptance in defining the desired modern décor. A first instinct would even suggest a Scandinavian feel. Using such mixed materials presents limitless possibilities in design imagination and celebrates playfulness and complexity. It should be noted that mixed does not mean impure and in fact a table with a smooth light-wood top surface with precise geometric steel legs or a lounge chair with wooden borders and steel linings are cases in point of new aesthetic purity.Working with materials in the exploration of discovering something new that accommodates well into today’s homes is a manufacturers delight. As the livingscape of Singapore changes on the exterior, the inventiveness of the interior ensures that it keeps pace in making sure that life is always lived in the balance. Beautifully.
