History

Window to the Past (WTP) was establised in April 1992, and over time has endured to be the source for some of Singapore’s most aesthetically pleasing and talked about homes and offices.

In true WTP style the store is quietly understated and distinctly elegant as it spans over three stories spread with striking pieces of furniture each with its own unique personality. Aptly true for its communicated brand statement of “Furniture with Personality”.

Naseem Mimi Somjee, Managing Director of WTP, a graduate of  Oxford University, states “Every home says a little bit about the person living in it.  It reflects a personality and lifestyle of the resident. And what brings it alive is the furniture and embellishments that adorn it. At WTP, we pride ourselves with furniture that is distinctive and has presence. Each with its own unique personality which helps give ones home the character one chooses to have. The fact is, when you buy furniture it gets noticed, commented on and more importantly becomes a part of your entire lifestyle. At WTP we continuously strive to deliver to that promise.”

Creating a piece of furniture requires an understanding of how it should be made, what it could be made from and importantly whom it is made for. This very ability is what is second nature to Mimi Somjee.

Born into a Singapore home which valued the elements that made for good living, Mimi, from an early age accumulated immense knowledge through an intent watch of her mother’s keen sense of detail and handpicking of furniture and other decorative items from their various travels all over the world. This formed the genesis of Mimi’s passion of creating memorable living spaces.

After completing her education from Oxford University, Mimi returned to Singapore to a choice of pursuing a career in banking or putting her passion to test and the rest as they say is history. WTP (Window To The Past) was born as an antique store that soon grew to earn a reputation of authenticity and ingenuity. Mimi, then spring-boarded this equity into transforming the store to meet the dynamic tastes of modern living that led to the creation of a furniture super store as it currently stands today. The one thing that has stayed intact in this journey is the personal touch and passion of Mimi as she continues to live her dream.
